Broadcasting & Film

Broadcasting & Film

Film & Broadcasting is about telling stories – whether fact or fiction. It combines high standards of training in production skills to make programmes – dramas and documentaries for radio, television and cinema, with a solid academic education in media theory and contextual studies. While the core focus is on ‘traditional’ media, students in this field will also study ‘new’ media forms, which still require all of the ‘traditional’ skillsets and are really about delivering stories in different formats or supporting ‘traditional’ story telling (e.g. a TV programme) in different ways.

The field of Broadcasting and Film also focuses on the study of various methods of communication using platforms such as radio, cinema, TV and digital media. Courses in this field examine how people communicate and how this shapes society whilst instructing students in the art and science that go into broadcasting and film-making in addition to developing creative talent and technical knowledge.
